Student Senate
The Student Senate is led by our 8th graders and meets every Friday. Two representatives from each class from TK-8th grade meet as a Senate to discuss strengths and challenges among students on campus. Prior to the first Senate meeting of the year, our 8th grade classes elect their leaders, create names and roles for their leaders and decide on the types of things the Senate will focus upon. The leaders meet with the principal each week to discuss their upcoming agenda, the principal is also their adviser during their meetings. The Senate is responsible for addressing, discussing and voting on student concerns that have been brought to the Senate.
The Student Senate experience builds self-esteem and teaches our students about the democratic process, decision making, public speaking, being responsible and becoming leaders in their community. Active citizenship creates active citizens. By creating and becoming the Senate, the children have real decision making power and real responsibility in their world at school. Forging decisions based upon active discourse is leadership in action and produces confident, independent thinking people.
