THE SCHOOL CAMPUS
The Church
Valley Park Church owns the property and rents the school building and grounds to OCS. They also lease the property to two other church groups, a soccer team and other organizations. OCS has exclusive use of the classrooms and the office. We share the yard, bathrooms, music room, kitchen, the ranch house, parking lot and Frank Bush Hall. OCS has primary use of these spaces between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Renacer, the Spanish language church has an office space down the hall from our main offices and frequently organizes a donated food program in that office on Fridays. We work collaboratively with the church and have a positive relationship. If you have any concerns about the facility or any church employee, please report this to Alma in the main office.
Morning Drop Off:
In the morning children enter the school through the small green gate that has the passcode entrance. School starts at 8:30. Children can be dropped off as early as 8:20 and be supervised at no additional cost. If your child is in grades K-1st, please park your car in the parking lot and escort your child to the Kindergarten playground. For 2nd and 3rd graders also park your car and escort your child to the larger playground. There is supervised play in these areas until school begins, at which time the teacher assistants will escort the children to their classrooms. For 4th, 5th and 6th graders parents may pull up to the covered patio area and drop their children off and they may walk themselves through the gate. Please watch them until they are through the gate. Please park your car in a parking space before letting your child out of the car.
Before Care Info:
Morning care is provided by OCS and begins at 7:00 in the morning. The cost for this service is $15 per week. This fee is paid directly to OCS. For the safety of the children and staff, all children arriving to school before 8:20 MUST be walked onto campus and signed in to the Morning Care Program (located in the music room). Parents who drop their children off without being signed in will be charged fees accordingly.
End of Day Pick-up:
At the end of the school day, 2:50 p.m., children leave the school through the larger chain-link gate at the south edge of the parking lot. Parents can also park their cars in the lot and wait at the gate. All the children will be escorted to the gate and a staff member will ensure that they are released only to a parent or caregiver that the parent has given permission for pick-up. The parking spaces closest to the gate are reserved for parents with young children or babies in the car, so they are able to pick-up their child without getting the younger child out of the car. Only people designated by you to pick-up your child will be allowed to take your child home. If a new babysitter, or a friend, or a parent of another child in the school is going to pick your child up one day, please send a note in with your child stating who the person is and giving your permission for them to take your child. If that person will be regularly picking up your child, please add them to your list of designees in the office. Students not picked up at 3:05 from the dismissal gate will be enrolled into the After School Care Program and fees will be assessed accordingly.
After school care:
After school care is provided by Our Community School. The hours are from 2:50-6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Students can attend one through five days per week as a regularly enrolled student, or the program can be used on an occasional basis depending on the family's need. The program is a fee-for-service program and is not subsidized at all by the State of California, so we ask that your account is kept in good standing so that we can continue to provide quality care to your child.
Each day the staff provides the students with two snacks and many activities for the children to participate in, including art, sports, manipulative activities, games, etc. Outside vendors are often brought in so that the students have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities. Vendors we have used in the past have offered formal art, drama, karate, yoga, and fencing. Information regarding fees for the after care program and the added programs can be found in the office.
