After Care Program

After Care Hours
After school care is offered Monday through Friday from 2:50 p.m.-6:00 p.m. on days in which school is in session. Please refer to the school calendar as there are a few days in which after care will not be available (ex: the day before the Thanksgiving Break). Students who attend on a pre-paid, pre-enrolled basis will not have their tuitions prorated for pick-up earlier than 6:00 p.m.

The Afternoon
The day includes the following:
  • Daily Snack at 4:00 p.m.
  • Supervised indoor activities
  • Supervised outdoor activities
  • Opportunities for children to complete homework
  • Enrollment/Tuition Rates
Families may enroll their children in the after care program on a pre-enrolled, pre-paid basis or use the program on a drop in basis. Children may attend the program up to 5 days per week depending on the need of the family. We are not contracted to work with the Child Care Resource Center. Monthly rates are as follows:

    Pre-Enrolled/Pre-Paid Rates:
    Days per Week Monthly Tuition
    1 $95.00
    2 $155.00
    3 $215.00
    4 $275.00
    5 $315.00
*A 5% discount on the total bill will be applied if a family enrolls siblings. Financial Aide may be available for students who attend 5 days per week. Please see Beth Wolfsbauer for details.

    Drop-in and Late-Pick-Up Tuitions
School dismisses daily at 2:50 p.m.; families have until 3:05 p.m. to pick up their children. At 3:05 p.m., all remaining students will be signed into the after care program and fees will be assessed accordingly. Families who only need after care services on an occasional basis may also use the program on a drop in basis as well. Families who are running late and do not make it to the dismissal gate by 3:05 p.m. will need to pick up their student from the after care program and fees will be assessed as well.

*** The rates are $8 per hour for any portion of the hour used ***
(Example: students will be signed into after care at 3:05 p.m. and families will be charged $8, even if they arrive to the school at 3:10 p.m. If students are not picked up by 4:00 p.m., an additional $8.00 will be charged. At 5:00 p.m., another $8 will be assessed. At that time, parents will have until 6:00 p.m. to pick up their child.)

All students must be picked up by 6:00 p.m. Rates after 6:00 p.m. are $1 per minute. Violation of the 6:00 p.m. pick up time may impact your child’s eligibility to participate in the After Care Program.

    Payments
Pre-enrolled families are on a pre-paid plan and tuitions are due the first week of each month. Checks should be made payable to: Our Community School. Tuitions paid after the first week of the month are considered late and will be assessed a 5% late fee. Families who use our program on a drop in basis will be invoiced monthly. Payments are due within one week of receiving the invoice in order to avoid a 5% late fee.

    Discipline
The OCS After School Program adopts the same philosophy and practices as are implemented in the “Our Community School” school day. We believe in treating each child with respect at all times and want to foster an intrinsic love for learning. We encourage children to make choices that will benefit themselves and the school community in general. We believe in working with children so they are able to practice positive conflict resolution strategies with their peers.

At times, a child may exhibit behaviors that can prevent him/her from actively participating in the program in a positive manner. During these times, the staff will talk with the child individually and try to find the root of the behavior and deal with it immediately; however if the behavior includes aggressive actions towards another student, parents may be called to pick up their child immediately from the after care program. This is left at the discretion of the After Care Director or the school’s administration.

If the behavior persists, the parents will be notified and asked for assistance in helping resolve the issue at hand. A plan may be created that will help support the child during his/her time in the after care; the entire after care staff will be notified of the plan and implement it to the best of their ability.

Should the behavior still continue, the student may become ineligible to attend the after care program for a designated period of time or indefinitely. Should a child indefinitely become ineligible to participate in the program or become ineligible to participate in the program for 5 or more days, a refund will be issued on a prorated basis.
